About

Jason Scott works in the visual effects and animation industry, and he uses this space to share his thoughts on life, art, people, friends, family, and the rest of the world around him.

Jason is a creative supervisor and technology manager who enjoys illeism. He has a varied background in traditional techniques and computer graphics, and he loves the entire gamut of special and visual effects (from practical to make-up to digital) and all that relates.

His passion starts with a love for cinema, as it often combines many other art forms he enjoys—photography, acting, writing, music, and others, as well continually pushes technological innovations as resources for filmmakers to tell their stories.

Jason’s first professional gig in the industry was in 1998, creating graphics and animation for the United States Air Force, using TrueSpace, Lightwave, and 3D Studio (before it was “Max”!).

Since then, he has worked at Stan Winston Studio and Stan Winston Digital, Comen VFX, DreamWorks Animation SKG, Rhythm & Hues Studios, and Method Studios (with some joint work with Encore VFX), on a variety of films, TV shows, music videos, and theme park rides. He spent 3 years as the Head of 3D and Head of Technology at Rising Sun Pictures, and then after FuseFX acquired RSP, joined the parent Pitch Black company to work on Global Production Technology with the entire Pitch Black group (FuseFX, Folks, RSP, and El Ranchito). You can see some of the projects on IMDB.

Jason graduated from the University of Southern California, after studying both cinema-television and computer science (specializing always in visual effects, animation, and graphics).

He grew up in the United States Air Force and has lived in D.C., Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, New Mexico, Rheinland-Pfalz, Virginia, California, British Columbia, and South Australia.

He is married to the beautiful Laura Scott, and they live with their 2 children in the greater Los Angeles area. They enjoy traveling, watching movies, and spending time with their families.
